Learn something new.. EVERYDAY..

Do you wish that when your friends ask you "What did you learn today?" you said something other than "nothing"? The first time I learned how to crochet was a few years back when my SIL asked me to teach her how to make baby booties. I didn't know how at the time so off I go to Mr. Google and 'googled' and 'youtubed' myself into learning how to make that first booties. It was love at first 'slip knot' so I say, because since then I would try my hands at a new stitch design I get my eyes on whether on Pinterest, Facebook, and yes Google. Whether it is the techniques or the types of yarn, I got 'hooked'.
(edited to note.. this is going to be quite a novela so please bear with me..)

Now, I have this habit of changing what I do and I'd switch to paper crafting, making cards, stamping, or doodling up designs on Photoshop or most of the time just plain old surfing through Pinterest and Facebook and online yarn shops..

I love the feel of thread and yarn, the texture and the colors, they can both brighten up your day or make it nostalgic.. I love how, with a flick of finger and hook (wand) you can create something beautiful, something gift-worthy, its just magical.

Crocheting for me has its ups and downs, I get bored over repetitive stitches and designs and sometimes it bothers me to not have enough yarn to finish something  you'd like, I thought it just takes up too much yarn to finish one scarf or one mitten or one hat. I gave up after a while and picked it up again about a few months ago – this time I wanted to finally learn how to knit through books, YouTube and blogs.

At first I thought it enough to learn how to make knit look-a-like stitches using hooks, so I learned how to 'knook' via Leisure Arts and AllFreeCrochet. I found it very very interesting at first and was able to make quick dishcloths from the swatches I made but nothing else came after that. I found it difficult to hold on to the thread that ran through the end of hook to act as another needle in knitting. It made my hands hurt having to hold it so I stopped.

Then I found out about Knitting Looms.. now this is more of a contender for me because, wow did I find it really quick to make really cute hats and mittens and leg warmers for my kids. I just loved it. I got circular knitting looms from an online shop based from Japan. I found their prices reasonable and being closer to our country, it would save me quite a peso on shipping :D.

They were great while they lasted, I found it difficult to make those really lovely sweaters and scarves with lacy stitches. I wanted to be able to make something out of thin cotton yarn and not bulky or worsted weighted yarns. I wanted to make lace.. with knitting.. hehehe

This is where I am right now.. in the process of learning how to knit - properly - with needles (well, circular knitting needles).. and here is my first knitted swatch.. :D soon I will dabble on to more serious stitching hehehe

I hope to be able to make this someday.. it'd be perfect for a window curtain.. wish me luck..

Happy Hooking!
